An Introduction To Transgender Hair Removal
If you plan on having gender affirming surgery, you may need to remove hair from the genital area beforehand. This needs to be carried out in plenty of time before surgery to ensure that surgery is not delayed, preferably 12/18 months prior to the operation. Dawn Beauty Clinic is experienced in working with transgender clientele and we understand what a difficult time it can be during early stages of your transition, and we are fully committed to supporting you in every way we can. Living life as your best, most authentic self takes courage and strength . No matter where you are in your journey of transition, take time to celebrate the beauty you own - inside and out.
For trans women particularly, unwanted hair often impedes a successful transition and can be a stubborn obstacle, and a great source of frustration. Shaving, tweezing, epilating and waxing are not only time consuming but they produce only temporary results. Oestrogen does not work to remove facial hair once it has developed during male puberty. Also, if you plan on having gender affirming surgery, you may need to remove hair from the genital area beforehand. This needs to be carried out in plenty of time before surgery to ensure that surgery is not delayed, preferably 12/18 months prior to the operation. You can overcome it with help from IPL/ laser hair removal ( which delivers a permanent reduction in unwanted hair), and electrolysis (the only proven method of permanent hair removal), both of which are on offer at Dawn Beauty Clinic.
Dawn is a member of the BIAE (British Institute and Association of Electrologists), the UK’s professional body for electrolysis, and has also been selected by the West Midlands Hub of NHS England to provide services for transgender clients. We are able to offer assistance in securing your funding for hair removal from NHS England. To see the benefits/ comparisons of electrolysis and Laser Hair Removal please see our electrolysis page.

NHS ENGLAND FUNDING
Many people including some Drs and Consultants may be under the impression that funding falls under the category of cosmetic procedures and is therefore not accessible via the NHS England. However, funding may be provided via NHS England for hair removal ( this includes Electrolysis and Laser Hair Removal/IPL).
